Rap Recording of the Year
DL INCOGNITO 'A Captured Moment in Time'Beginning his hip-hop career in 1998 by rhyming on mix tapes, appearing on radio shows and steadily developing a following, DL Incognito received a JUNO Award nomination in 2005 for his sophomore album, Life's A Collection of Experiences. He is equally respected as an artist and producer, while his beats receive as much attention as his lyrics and performances. His consistency as an artist has produced exceptional albums including his fourth solo record, A Captured Moment in Time. DL Incognito validates that his microphone is not just a technological device - it is his voice.(URBNET*Fontana Northr

D-SISIVE 'The Book'After performing at Glastonbury, Leeds and Reading Festival, Australia's Good Vibrations and Ireland's Electric Picnic, D-Sisive is back. Marking a return to his more serious, introspective self, D-Sisive still peppers the songs with witty punchlines and a comedic attack. The Book also spawned a number of creative, low budget videos. D-Sisive, whose real name is Derek Christoff, has devoted nearly half his life to hip hop and now finds himself coming pretty much full circle; from an introspective young emcee to class clown and back to introspective again.(URBNET*Fontana North

FAMOUS 'I Rap Now'This Toronto native (by way of Montréal and Virginia), is a former record label employee, radio host and a hip hop artist to be watched. From co-hosting events (Ne-Yo, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Grad Night at Canada's Wonderland) to opening for Nas, Toronto's Kardinal Offishall and Montreal's Bless (Just4Laughs), to gracing the stage with NY's Fabolous and JR Writer (Soulcity), this kid has what it takes to live up to the name: FAMOUS. His debut solo project features production from NY's The Narcotics (Kanye West, Teairra Marí, Jay-Z) and Toronto's own Boi-1da and Tone Mason. The video for 'I'm Here' features Kardinal Offishall & Tona. (HHC*E1 Music)
KARDINAL OFFISHALL 'Not 4 Sale' WINNERJason Harrow, better known by his stage name Kardinal Offishall, is a hip-hop artist and producer. He is often credited as Canada's 'hip-hop ambassador,' and is well known for his reggae and dancehall-influenced style of hip-hop. Indeed, Kardinal's latest album Not 4 Sale is a rash of untamed melodies. Signed to hip-hop star Akon's label, together the dynamic duo kicks in the door with lead single 'Dangerous,' produced by Vanguards. Akon's satiny, sheet-creasing vocals waft above Kardinal's fluid, flexible, flossing rhymes. The song became a massive hit. (Kon Live*Universal)
POINT BLANK 'Point Blank'Comprised of six MCs and one in-house producer - Imperial, Trouble, Stump, Kidd, RPD, Jackal and Pikihed - their recordings are a reflection of a life growing up in impoverished neighborhoods and government housing. As artists, they all have distinct styles and offer a diversity of sounds, lyrics and deliveries. Point Blank has performed alongside hip-hop legends such as Rakim, KRS-1, Next, Mobb Deep and Lil' Flip among others. They have garnered national interest through a cover story in The National Post and Urbanology.(TiltRock*E1 Music)
