Brown and Black indeed!

posted Lainey Lui at 10:53 pm et Sunday April 6th

What a closing. And what better way to close this blog than with our girl Jully Black. She killed it, didn't she? She brought it "She-roe" style and never looked back.

A girl who is the youngest of nine, grew up in the projects, busted her ass, was knocked down repeatedly... this year's Junos belonged to Jully Black. And THAT is how you start a Revival.

I hope you PVR'd her performance. It was one for the ages.

Buble & Black

posted Lainey Lui at 10:34 pm et Sunday April 6th

Michael Buble just crashed Jully Black's couch. OK, Russell Peters is on there too. And Feist. All crammed in together with Ben and Tanya.

Only Jim Cuddy could make the moment more perfect. He's my #1. Just ahead of Jacob Hoggard.

It's Official

The "eTalk" Lounge is HOPPING. Paul Brandt just walked in, Finger Eleven is lounging by the bar, the sweaty guys from Hedley just arrived, euphoric from their performance, and some dude is walking around with two socks on his head.

PS. Is it wrong that I've developed a crush - more than a crush - on Jacob Hoggard?

New Love at the JUNOs?

posted Lainey Lui at 9:58 pm et Sunday April 6th

It's an "eTalk" Juno exclusive!

Spotted in the "eTalk" Lounge: Keisha Chante holding hands with Manny Dion, Belly's Manager. She looked up at him adoringly. And can you blame her. He's quivering. Qui-ver-ing.

Belly Styles

posted Lainey Lui at 9:06 pm et Sunday April 6th

Interviewed Belly on the red carpet. He was wearing Versace head to toe. Even the socks. And totally owing the environment. Belly for me is like Mariah Carey. So ridiculous. Almost cheesy. Over the top top top top. And fecking hilarious.

Belly, like Mimi, makes you happy. Almost embarrassing but not quite. Unabashedly, shamelessly self involved. Narcissism at its most amusing. I adore Belly. And Belly adores himself. Can't wait til he gets into the lounge. We need a little Belly up in this piece.

For Dad

posted Lainey Lui at 9:00 pm et Sunday April 6th

When my parents moved to Canada from Hong Kong in the 70s, Anne Murray was the first Canadian artist my dad "discovered". He would come home after a long night, working two jobs, struggling with a new language in a new country, tired and frustrated and probably a little scared, and he'd sit in the living room smoking a cigarette listening to Anne Murray.

He said there was something about her voice that made him believe things would eventually sort themselves out. As Anne Murray arrived today on the Juno red carpet, in a day and age when young stars reign supreme, there was a moment in all of us who are not 15 - each of us with our own memory attached to a songbird who is as Canadian as the maple leaf. Even if English wasn't the language we were born with.

That Body Did Not Have Two Babies

posted Lainey Lui at 8:33 pm et Sunday April 6th

Serously. Deborah Cox was TINY. And ripped. And hot. And she's had two babies. How is this possible?

Before you go there, because it's totally understandable given the example Hollywood has set for us - no, there was not a trace, not one, of anything unnatural. Bitch just has some killer genes.

OK Calgary...

y'all know how to throw a red carpet! And how! The fans lining the carpet were as enthusiastic as any I've ever seen. And they had good reason to be crazed... Avril arrived early. So she could sign autographs. Which was kinda refreshing, actually. Because the Avril of the gossip world is known for spitting and giving the finger. Tonight - no spit, no finger. Would you believe she was sweet and almost shy?

When I spoke to Avril she seemed overwhelmed and very, very humbled by the attention. At a time when the press has not been kind, when negative reviews of her show have been dominating headlines, Avril was the antithesis of her bratty image. First surprise of the evening?

Stay tuned for more...

Cowtown kicks ass!

posted Lainey Lui at 3:06 pm ET Friday April 4th

Juno weekend is legendary for parties and last night I hosted my own at BLVD with over 200 fellow gossipmongers.

In true celebrity style, the event was sponsored by Pigsback.com, Skoah, and Rustico Prosecco and smutlovers were treated to Skoah hand massages and Mavi giftbags. It's all about the swag!

Which is why we went all out on our ''eTalk'' Lounge at the Junos. Avril, Buble, Finger Eleven - even if they don't win an award they won't go home empty handed because we'll be loading them up with Mac & Nat vegan bags, Calvin Klein fragrances and more!

Back to the party patrol - most of the artists touch down in Calgary tonight and will be lighting up Cowtown.

Gotta take a disco nap so I can stay out til the sun comes up. Smut requires sacrifice, see?

Yours in gossip,
Lainey
