Water, Land and Air Protection Minister Joyce Murray is proud to be the Liberal candidate for New Westminster-Coquitlam. Ms. Murray represented the provincial riding of New Westminster as MLA from 2001-05. She was appointed to cabinet in 2001, and as a member of the Premier’s Executive Council, she made a vital contribution to the difficult task of putting the B.C. economy back on a sound footing again, and turning deficits into surpluses. In January 2004, Ms. Murray was appointed Minister of Management Services, also responsible for the B.C. Public Service Agency and B.C. Buildings Corporation. She devoted 25 years to growing Canada’s leading reforestation business as a founding partner of Brinkman & Associates Reforestation Ltd. The company’s 1,200 employees currently provide forest management and ecological restoration services in the Fraser Basin, across B.C., two other Canadian provinces and in three countries. Ms. Murray earned a Masters in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University in 1992, receiving the Faculty of Business Dean’s Convocation Medal as the top MBA graduate. She was a guest lecturer in the SFU Executive MBA and Masters of Public Policy programs and has lead strategy seminars for non-profit associations. She was appointed in 1995 by B.C. NDP Premier Glen Clark to serve on the Lands & Resources committee of Forest Renewal B.C. Ms. Murray married Dirk Brinkman in 1977, and has lived in the New Westminster-Coquitlam riding since 1989, where they raised their children Baba, Erik and Dawn in the community.
