Laplante, DominicSaskatchewan, Battlefords - Lloydminster, Liberal Party of Canada Dominic LaPlante is a 21 year old Cree Metis who has been active in his community since childhood. Mr. LaPlante has been a member of the Liberal Party since the age of 14 and has served in Executive roles for the Aboriginal Liberal Commission in Saskatchewan. He has attended many political conventions in that capacity. Mr. LaPlante has always been active with sports. He has participated in Basketball for Team Saskatchewan at the North American Indigenous Games. He has also volunteered his time coaching minor basketball. Mr. LaPlante has worked at the Nehiyaw Smoke Shop in North Battleford since it opened April 2004. He also has work experience at Peace Hills Trust. Even though Mr. LaPlante was raised and attended school in Saskatoon, his family has always valued their connection to the Battlefords. They maintain a home in the Cochin area at Moosamin Reserve and spend a great deal of time there. Dominic is happy to have been raised with the values of his Aboriginal background and culture. A priority for Mr. LaPlante is to use the demographics of the Battlefords to the advantage of the region. He would like to engage the high proportion of Aboriginal youth to improve and diversify the economy.
