McLean, Garry

Garry McLean was born and raised on Lake Manitoba First Nation (Dog Creek Indian Reserve) on September 22, 1951. He attended elementary school in Lake Manitoba and high school in Eriksdale, and graduated from Assiniboine Community College with a Social Services Certificate.

Mr. McLean is devoted to the interests of First Nations people. He has worked as a Welfare Administrator, Band Councillor, and General Manager for the Lake Manitoba First Nation. He has worked for a variety of First Nations governments as a Social Development Officer, Child Welfare Director, Economic Officer, Holistic Health Director and Advisor to the Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs. In addition he has worked as a Social Development and Local Government Officer in Manitoba for the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs.

Mr. McLean also serves his community as an active volunteer. He has been involved with the Manitoba and National Friendship Centres, the City Of Winnipeg Race Relations Committee, the Ma Mawi Wa Chi Tata Centre (Winnipeg) and the Manitoba Folk Arts Council. Mr. McLean has also been active with the Folklarama First Nations Pavilion, Global Forest Watch, and has served as an Elders Helper with Spiritual Cultural Camps in Manitoba, Alberta, Ontario, Newfoundland and British Columbia.
