Businesswoman, entrepreneur, and community volunteer, Deputy Mayor Louise Parkes is the Liberal candidate for Oshawa.

Ms. Parkes was first elected to Oshawa City Council in 2000 and was re-elected in 2003. In addition to her duties as Deputy Mayor, Ms. Parkes serves as the Chair of Development Services Committee, a member of the Strategic Initiatives Committee, a Transit Commissioner, and a Library Trustee.

Ms. Parkes is President and CEO of Parmac Relationship Marketing Ltd. Prior to 1992, she was the National Sales Manager for Canada’s largest legal publishing house.

Ms. Parkes is also active in a number of community organizations including the Rotary Club of Oshawa, the Downtown Action Committee, and the Festival of Murals. She is a former Vice-President of the Victorian Order of Nurses of Ontario.

In 1996, she was awarded the YWCA Woman of Distinction for Arts and Culture and received the Fan of the Year Award from the Downtown Oshawa Board of Management. In 1997, Ms. Parkes was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. In 2000, she received the Oshawa Chamber of Commerce Civic Pride award.

Ms. Parkes lives in Oshawa with her husband Darryl Sherman, a lawyer and owner of Wilson Furniture – a local family-owned business started in 1934.
