Landry, Gilles

Quebec, Portneuf - Jacques-Cartier, Liberal Party of Canada

Gilles Landry, the former mayor of Fossambault-sur-le-Lac, is proud to be the Liberal candidate for Portneuf-Jacques-Cartier.

Mr. Landry was first elected in 1987 as a Councillor for the City of Fossambault-sur-le-Lac. He became Mayor in 1991, leading the municipality for 14 years, until 2005. Mr. Landry’s efforts as Mayor led to an improvement in quality of life in the community through significant increases in land values and an approach that kept taxes at an acceptable level while encouraging developers to maintain the environmentally-friendly and resort character of this small municipality on the shore of Lake St. Joseph.

Mr. Landry was born on 24 April 1947 and has a diploma as an electronics technician and a certificate as a public health inspector from the Canadian Public Health Association.

In 1968, he started work as an inspector with the Quebec Department of Health.

In the course of his career, he worked in health and the environment and was one of the pioneers at the Department of the Environment, where he held various positions as an inspector, senior inspector and as head of a team of water and purification technicians.

Until very recently, he held various positions in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Jacques-Cartie, serving as Deputy Warden, President of the local investment society for employment development (SOLIDE) and Vice-President of the Local Development Centre (CLD).
