Doyle, NormanNewfoundland and Labrador, St. John's East, Conservative Party of Canada After careers in construction, broadcasting and business, Doyle was elected as the Progressive Conservative Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for the District of Harbour Main – Bell Island in 1979. He was re-elected in 1982, 1985 and again in 1989. In 1982, Doyle entered the Provincial Cabinet and served as Minister in the Departments of Municipal Affairs, Transportation and Labour. He did not seek re-election in the Provincial General Election of 1993. In 1997, Doyle entered federal politics and on June 02nd, was elected Member of Parliament for his home Riding of St. John’s East. He was re-elected in the Federal General Elections of 2000 & 2004. He served as PC Party Whip and as PC National Caucus Chair. He is currently Official Opposition National Caucus Chair and sits on the Planning & Priorities Committee of Caucus. Doyle and his wife, Belle (Hannifan) live in St. John’s and have two grown sons, Deon and Randy.
