Danielle Gardner

Top 8

Danielle admits to already feeling like a different person and performer as a result of her participation in the competition thus far. “I have changed in many ways. It has given me a goal to work towards so I can better myself as a person and dancer. Most of all the competition has changed my confidence.” She was overjoyed to learn she had made into the Top 22 of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Season 3.

As a toddler, Danielle was mesmerized watching her older sister dance. A teacher noticed her interest and suggested Danielle give it a try. “I used to sit outside the classroom wide eyed,” she says. Primarily a contemporary dancer but experienced in ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, tap, and musical theatre, Danielle was formally trained at six different studios across British Columbia.  Most notably, she has worked with Josh Beamish at Move and Tiffany Tregarthan at Modus Operandi. She calls Tiffany her “contemporary mentor” and someone who has “taught me the meaning of dance and how fortunate we are to be able to dance.”

Danielle’s dancing shoes have taken her as far as Olso, Norway (World Dance Competition), and to New York where she performed on LIVE! WITH REGIS AND KELLY. Danielle says volunteering to be a Go-Go dancer on LIVE! WITH REGIS AND KELLY was the most outrageous thing she has ever done. “I had lined up for the show at 5 a.m. and was wearing pajamas. It was a lot of fun and I ended up being brought back to New York for (the show’s)  Relly Awards later that year where I won the Award for Best Go-Go Dancer 2007!”

People might be surprised to learn that Danielle visualizes food when she dances. She says that when she does a jeté she sees “chicken,” and “blueberries” when she performs a pirouette. Her favorite food is French toast and bacon and tomato sandwiches, and her fashion style is “classy-girly with an edge.”

Danielle is excited about the coming weeks in the competition and looks forward to showing Canada what talent she has to offer. Danielle believes her performances will capture viewer’s hearts because they will be both “genui
