Jera Wolfe knew his life would change when he made the Top 22. “I couldn’t believe it and I was so scared I didn’t know what to do,” he says about the walk down the green mile. When asked how he felt when he was told he would be a part of this season of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA he said, “I’m so grateful to be in this position and I can’t wait to show Canada what I can do.”

The 19-year-old Inverness native says people are always surprised to hear that his primary forms of dance are the unlikely combination of ballet and breaking. Being so well-versed in two polar opposite styles only proves this young dancer is willing and able to learn new genres. Experienced in contemporary, modern and character, Jera’s start in Grade 5 has meant opportunities at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Banff Centre for the Arts and the National Ballet of Canada. It is no surprise that Jera says he is most comfortable “on stage performing something I love and being surrounded by the people I love.”

Feeling the stress from Finals Week, Jera learned how far he can be pushed and expects more to come in the upcoming weeks. Not having many good luck rituals, Jera does lean on his favorite legwarmer to bring him luck in the competition.

When asked what he loves most about Canadian dancers, he says he loves the uniqueness, saying “the diversity of culture and community support is what makes us so great.”

Jera has his mom to thank for kick-starting his dance career and she continues to be his number one fan. Even though Jera relates most to Canada’s Favourite Dancer from Season 1, Nico Archambault, he is ready to be himself and lighten up. He gives this same advice to next season’s hopefuls. “Honestly, just relax and take it all in. If you stress out you’ll choke. I’m so grateful for what this show has already done for me.”
