Top 22
Shelaina Anderson credits her determination for helping her break into the Top 22 of Season 3. The Edmonton native says she was, “hysterical! I was in shock, then I cried, then I laughed, and then I was exhausted from being so emotional.” Seeing some of her friends get cut from Finals Week was challenging, but she is excited to start her journey on the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA stage.
Shelaina says her dance career started because of her mother. “My mom used to dance, and loved it, and she wanted my younger sister and I to dance as well,” she says. As a contemporary dancer, Shelaina did not limit herself with her training. Jazz, lyrical, tap, ballet, pointe, modern, theatre, ballroom and hip-hop are also under her dancing belt and she is showing no signs of slowing down. Having worked with the likes of Brian Friedman, Tyce Diorio and Stacey Tookey, Shelaina has travelled across North America participating in a number of dance conventions and performances.
Dance has been a huge part of Shelaina’s life and when asked what phrase she uses most, she answers, “5…6…7…8.” She also feels people will be surprised to know that she has a room full of old dance costumes dating back to the age of six.
Even though she does not have any rituals before she performs, she says her mother and grandmother certainly do, “they always sit in their lucky seats at a theatre in Edmonton I frequently perform in. My grandmother loves the view from seat 28.”
When performing, the judges and viewers can expect to see Shelaina give 110% and dance from the heart. “I’m going to embrace every moment on the show,” she says strongly, “I’m a born and raised Alberta girl who lives and breathes dance!”
