Top 10
Hip-hop dancer, Edgar Gilbert-Reyes says making it into the Top 22 of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Season 3 is his all-time biggest accomplishment. “There have been many times when I have wanted to give up but I realized this is a constant hustle and you have to constantly push for success. Making it onto the show was a huge personal accomplishment and probably the best day of my life!”
The Calgary native says it was his constant energy as a child that caused his mother to put her son in dance. “I loved music, and my mom being a dance fanatic herself, wanted to see if dance was right for me and it was!” While hip-hop is his main focus, Edgar has also trained in contemporary, jazz, ballet, tap, break-dancing, locking, popping, and house.
Edgar points to SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA judge and choreographer Luther Brown when asked who his greatest dance influence is. Edgar first met Luther when he moved to Toronto to explore more of the Canadian dance industry. Prior to that, Edgar trained at Decidedly Jazz Dance Works in Calgary until he was 18.
No stranger to dancing with the finest, Edgar has worked with Luther Brown, Blake McGrath, and Gil Duldulao and has also performed on tour with Canadian JUNO Award-winning singer Keisha Chanté.
As for interesting non-dance Edgar factoids, the bartender and sandwich maker says he is most comfortable when he is in the shower “busting a move”. He is also extremely fond of pasta, his mom, girlfriend, and cat.
Edgar says viewers can expect to see fun, energetic, and stirring performances from him each week. “I want people to know that I am a genuine person that has big dreams and huge inspirations. I am outgoing and love to laugh. Expect real performances out of me. No cheese on the pizza!”
