Eliminated: Top 6 Eighteen-year-old Melanie Mah considers making the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Top 20 one of the greatest accomplishments of her life so far. "Nothing like this has ever happened to me so I am extremely excited!," says the Richmond Hill native. Melanie credits versatility, hard work and emotional support for getting her this far in the competition. Although she is primarily a contemporary dancer, Melanie is also trained in ballet, jazz/lyrical, hip hop, and tap. Much to her surprise, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA judge and choreographer Jean Marc Genereux's ballroom round during Finals Week proved to be the most difficult part of the audition process for Melanie. Never one to back down from a challenge, the proficient dancer welcomed the opportunity to master the difficult style claiming "once I finally got most of the steps down, it was really fun!" Having worked with the likes of esteemed SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA guest judges and choreographers Blake McGrath and Mia Michaels, Melanie considers herself extremely lucky to possess the ability to dance - an ability which has taken her across North America to a variety of dance competitions. Of her audition experience, Melanie says "I've learned to just always remind myself that I do it because dance is my passion and to just try and enjoy every bit of this amazing opportunity." Melanie believes that the wide range of dance styles found throughout the country are a direct result of Canada's cultural mosaic and she is proud to be part of a program that celebrates this diversity. "SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA is important because there is no other TV show that celebrates the dance world in Canada...it really inspires younger Canadians." When asked what the audience can expect from her this season, Melanie promises "a girl who loves to smile, dance, and have fun. I think I'll be able to show versatility while bringing a unique and different style of my own to the table." |
