Eliminated: Top 8 Kim Gingras lists professionalism, passion and performance as three key elements to landing her a spot in the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Top 20. The 24-year- old hip-hop dancer already has words of advice for next season's Top 20 hopefuls - "Don't hold back!" In preparation for a performance, Kim does not subscribe to any particular superstitions or rituals. Instead, she likes to "freestyle to whatever song happens to be playing before I go onstage. I want to relax, groove but not over practice what is about to happen." Like many of her fellow competitors, Kim would very much like to work with SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA guest judge and choreographer Mia Michaels, as well as choreographer and Edmonton native Stacey Tookey. "I would love to do a mean Luther Brown hip hop number too," she adds. It is no surprise that two of Kim's favourite movies are dance-themed, and she claims to have watched both Dirty Dancing and Dance With Me repeatedly as a child. When not honing her hip hop skills, Kim can either be found spending time outdoors or driving around in her car with the windows down "blasting fun music." Kim is incredibly proud of her work with the Montreal-based Blueprint Dance Company. When asked to describe the best day of her life, she says "making the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Top 20!" She also cites being selected to perform in Egypt for Canadian singer and entertainer Chantal Chamandy as one of the most important moments in her dance career. Kim feels that SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA is important because she says "it gives visibility to the enormous talent throughout the country." When asked whether her participation in the competition has changed her, Kim claims "I don't think the process so far has changed who I am but it really made realize how much I can be challenged both physically and mentally. I can't even imagine how it will be after the show!" |
