Death is around every corner in Malawi. Although there are stories of hope at some hospitals (like the Kangaroo Care Newborn clinic we saw) for the most part, hospital residents are dying and the facilities lack the very basics by which to treat them - in some cases, there is no running water available.
Hospitals in Malawi are often not where you go to get better - they are where you go to die.
