After leaving Lipungu Primary School, we visited an After School "Edzi Toto" Club near Blantyre.
"Edzi Toto" means "Anti-Aids" and these clubs have sprung up as a way to reinforce the need for education about the disease and how to prevent it.
The children (some as young as 6 or 7) sang songs, read poems, acted out plays, and we learned first- hand the disturbing truths that these children are faced with at too young an age - sex, AIDS, death, and the reality of growing up with out parents.
In an inspirational moment of synergy - Farley taught the children we met the words to "I Know I Can".
UNICEF is working to ensure that this generation of young Malawians is the first to beat the odds as it relates to HIV AIDS. |
