PEI hopes buzz from Regis and Kelly becomes tourism boon
CHARLOTTETOWN - Prince Edward Island has high hopes of a tourist boom after the visit of "Live! With Regis and Kelly."
The show wrapped up its broadcasts in the province yesterday, leaving behind a shower of publicity and online buzz.
On Monday, Canada's smallest province cracked the Top 10 Google searches in the United States.
It re-emerged there yesterday.
Tourism Minister Robert Vessey says the spotlight the show put on his province is priceless.
Don Cudmore of the Tourism Industry Association of P-E-I says the province will reap benefits from the visit and that it should build on that momentum.
The province spent 800-thousand dollars to bring Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa to its shores.
The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, a federal body mandated to promote growth in the region, funnelled another 200-thousand dollars.
