Kandahar from a distance

by CTV News South Asia Bureau Chief Janis Mackey Frayer

Kandahar is a crossroads city for a lot of what ails Afghanistan: drug runners, warlords, corruption, the Taliban. As history goes it is not an inviting place, especially for foreigners. As a reporter visiting the city over the past five years I have usually needed to keep a low profile.

I am not a photographer and these pictures are by no means a historical record. They are snapshots taken quickly from backseats or sidelines. They show Kandahar from a distance.

All of this is well and good but regardless of labelling, consumers have to stop being so ignorant. Do you really think a bottle of Snapple or a bag of Tostitos are good for you, no matter what the label says. Come on people, stupid is as stupid does!
