Now in its sixth year, Canadian Idol has established itself as Canada's most popular program, with a whopping 2.75 million viewers watching the final moments of the finale last season.

Hosted by CTV's Ben Mulroney, the show gives undiscovered talent a chance to compete for the title in front of a national audience. The winner will be announced on live television in September.

Contestants will be allowed to accompany themselves with musical instruments for the second year in a row, a move that proved so popular for "Canadian Idol" that "American Idol" has followed suit this year.

"Canadian Idol" is based on FremantleMedia and 19TV's international 'Idol' format.
