Hiring a Christmas Consultant

From the shopping to the party planning, wrapping and not to mention the cooking and baking,  just thinking about all the work associated with the holidays can give some of us the hives.

But have you ever thought of paying someone else to do it all?

Grail Noble, founder and President of Yellow House Events, has helped to plan and organize the holidays for many families over the past 15 years.

“Regardless of your culture or religion, the holiday season means that you are expected to both attend events and likely host events for family, friends, business associates, staff, your kids …all the while maintaining your busy life and planning for the holidays. It is also a notoriously stressful time for many people.”

Why should someone consider hiring a holiday specialist? Noble offers three good reasons, “Stress relief. Time savings. Esthetics. As with most things, you can tell when something has been done by a professional versus a do-it-yourselfer!”

So what services does a Christmas Consultant or Holiday Planner provide? “For starters, a professional will help you define your objectives and deliver a cohesive look and feel that is very difficult to do on your own (whether it’s for a Christmas party, decorating your house, customized gifting or charitable holiday giving).” According to Noble, event planners:

  • Have a cornucopia of great suppliers at their fingertips, so that your vision can be delivered without you having to actually search for those suppliers yourself.
  • Stay on top of trends and best practices so that they can source the best suppliers in design, entertainment, catering, invitation creation, décor, staffing and gifting.
  • Know what’s out there, what’s doable, what works and what doesn’t. “We also know how to get it done and can find unusual or unique items on behalf of our clients.”
  • Can save you money, time and quite a bit of stress with their experience and expertise. “Even a simple project can involve several components, from a variety of different sources. So, if you don’t have the time to shop around for props, décor, get catering quotes, taste test, arrange for delivery, check invitation stock, order in rentals, display the décor, find staff, source entertainment, select flowers, take RSVPs, etc., then a professional can help.”

But what’s the expense of all this stress-free holiday entertaining and gift-giving? “A consultant will of course charge for their time,” says Noble. “But the time you are saving not doing all that running around is, very often, well worth it. We can also actually save clients money due to our bulk buying power and insider knowledge of where to get good things at a great price.”

Forget expensive jewellery -- this year I’m asking Santa for a Christmas Consultant!
