Holiday Gift Ideas for Pets
As your family gathers to celebrate another holiday season of jubilant decorations, pampering presents and good food, don’t forget about the family pet. After another year of obedient adoration, they deserve to be included in the festivities. Consider spoiling your cat or dog the same way you would any other member of the family.

Jewelry
Jewelry is a winning gift for anyone, and pets are no exception. Collars have gone from being a mere form of doggie-identification to being a fashion statement required by all animals.
But this year, it’s all about accessorizing that collar with some four-legged flare. Toronto’s John Andrews For Pets sells a line of attractive jewelry, including this L'Amour Heart Charm($29.99), a sparkling rhinestone heart, also available in the shape of a bone. |
Earl the Chicken
If you really want to hear your cat purr or see your dog smile, offering up a toy is the perfect option. From the subtle to sublime, a toy to chew or bat around will never go wrong. Doggie experts say giving your pet something with a squeak to it will garner extra points for you. One fresh idea is Earl the Chicken ($9.99) -- think a modern day fat Elvis mixed with a defeathered chicken. Also available in equally redneck Henrietta.

Pet Spa
Of course, if you really want to pamper your pet, a day at the spa is exactly what he or she is begging for. John Andrews For Pets, in Toronto, says the key to a good pet spa is that they treat your pet like an individual. Prices vary depending on the size of your pet, but range between $40 and $75. Additional services, such as a personal pawdicure, are also available. |
Sponsor an animal
If Fluffy and Fido have everything a pet could ever want, or you’re shopping for someone who likes their animals a little wilder, perhaps you could adopt an at-risk animal for them or yourself.
The World Wildlife Federation (www.wwf.ca) will let you adopt anything from an Orca Whale to an Arctic Fox or Asian Elephant. They’ll send an adoption kit that includes a plush toy of your animal and an adoption certificate. These symbolic adoptions go to help protecting the animals in the wild, and do not mean you will be asked to care for one personally. |
Comfy
When your pet comes home after a hard day and wants to relax, they should have a place to curl up. PetSmart suggests this plush bed, perfect for smaller dogs. The gift set also comes with a blanket and plush toy to make any dog or cat feel at home.

The Fleas Knees Tees
While not strictly a gift for your pet, all good dog moms need something for themselves, too. Softer than butta, and bootie-coveringly long (yes, bootie-coveringly is so a word), this gorgeous 100% pima cotton tee ($60) (The Fleas Knees) has been hand-screenprinted with ultra-glam rock-star-fab silver foil and is available in black and white. Choose the statement that best best says you're a Doggy Mommy; "FairyDogMother," "Mom-of-a-Bitch," and "DogMom: The new milf." Wouldn't it be nice if all things pertaining to animal welfare were black and white?. $5 from every tee goes to TheFleasKneesFund.
