Rudy Giuliani
Born in 1944, Giuliani built his career as an attorney. He lost his
first bid to become New York City mayor by the closest margin in the
city's history, but tried again in 1993.

Elected on a platform focused on quality of life, crime, business and
education he became a popular leader credited with transforming NYC
from a seedy megalopolis into one of America's safest.

Giuliani became "America's Mayor" in the days after the terrorist
attacks that struck his city in September, 2001. As a living symbol
of the country's struggle to recover, he represents a powerful
symbol, albeit one relegated to the largely ignored first night of
the four-day convention.

New York Governor George Pataki
Another Republican moderate, Pataki's celebrity has been largely
overshadowed by the high-profile former mayor. This week, however,
he'll have a chance to put his best foot forward when he introduces
President George W. Bush's prime-time convention address.
