President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney
The Republican ticket for the 2004 presidential election.
Cheney, whose first term was marked by his conspicuous absence from
the public spotlight, is taking another tack in convention week. He
arrived in New York City before the president, to rally party members
before his prime-time speech on Wednesday.
Bush, on the other hand, is spending the week on the campaign trail
before arriving in NYC for his address Thursday night.
Frequently ridiculed for his rhetorical style, 'Dubya' will close the
convention with an acceptance speech expected to tout his
accomplishments as a war president.
Speaking from a stage in the center of Madison Square Gardens, watch
for Bush to emphasize an area of expertise he was mocked for lacking
before his election to the presidency -- foreign policy.
