Alfonso Gagliano looks to sue both Prime Minister Paul Martin and the federal government for defamation and wrongful dismissal for a total of $4.5 million over his firing from his diplomatic post as ambassador to Denmark.

Gagliano was fired Feb. 10, the same day a damning report was tabled by federal Auditor General Sheila Fraser on the federal sponsorship scandal
