Gulnara Samoilova's apartment was just four blocks from the World Trade Center. As the events of Sept. 11, 2001 were unfolding, she grabbed her camera and headed into the street. Standing beneath the south tower, its smoking vertical bulk filling her lens, she snapped the crumbling tower before someone nearby screamed, 'RUN!' People trampled her as they fled, but she got up just as the dust cloud was about to envelop her. She picked herself up and began shooting. These are her images.
