Canadian canoeist Thomas Hall was a long shot for a 1,000-metre podium finish. Surprisingly, with just 100 metres to go in the race, Hall made a move on Vadim Menkov of Uzbekistan to secure a bronze medal on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing.
