Thick crude oil which washed up on the cobble stone beach of Evans Island sticks to the boots and pants of a local fisherman in Prince William Sound, Alaska on April 11, 1989. There's not many fishermen in Cordova, Alaska planning to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the spill on March 24, 2009. "It's hard to keep dwelling on this thing that has caused so much pain in this community," said executive director Cordova District Fishermen Rochelle van den Broek. "The term anniversary kind of offends a lot of fishermen. The term implies celebration and there's nothing to celebrate." Read article.
