“American Idol” judge Randy Jackson says Mariah Carey would be “amazing” on “The X Factor.”

Rumours have been swirling that Simon Cowell wants the pop diva to become a judge on his singing reality series after it was announced this week that judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, as well as host Steve Jones, had been cut from the show.

“She’d be amazing. I manage her so of course I’m going to say that but she’d be amazing,” Jackson told reporters during an “Idol” conference call Thursday afternoon.

“I don’t know if that’s ever going to happen or whatever, but I think there’s quite a few people (who could do it). Simon’s one of the smartest people I know. I’m sure he’s got some very interesting ideas up his sleeve.”

Jackson says he has not spoken to Abdul since the news she would not be returning for Season 2 was announced but had been texting her back and forth.

“It’s sad to hear about all what’s going on with that show. All of those people are dear friends of mine . . . ‘Idol’ started with me, Simon, Ryan (Seacrest) and Paula, and that’s what really brought us to our prominence, you know what I mean? So these people are in my life forever because we did something very unique and we had a chemistry.”

He adds that “Idol” has found that chemistry again with Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who joined the judging panel last season, after Cowell and Abdul’s exit.

“I think when you do these shows with any kind of judging panel, what you’re really looking for is that chemistry and I think we lucked out with it on ‘Idol’ and we lucked out again with Steven and Jennifer.”

The “American Idol” auditions continue in St. Louis, Thursday, Feb. 2 at 8 pm ET/PT on CTV Two and the Hollywood Round begins Wednesday, February 8 at 8/7C on CTV.
