Demi Lovato loses her final act as ‘X Factor’ prepares for a Simon-filled semi-final
After weeks of fighting to stay alive in the competition, Diamond White and CeCe Frey became the latest contestants to be sent home on “The X Factor.”
Diamond was sent home Thursday night following a sing-off with Simon Cowell’s favourite girl group, Fifth Harmony.
With her trademark smile still intact, the 13-year-old Detroit native spoke optimistically about her future.
"I'm just thinking of Cher Lloyd...She finished (fourth) on her season and look where she is,” said Diamond of the pop singer who rose to fame on “The X Factor U.K.”
It was the second elimination for Diamond, who was sent home after the first live show of the season. But a phone call from mentor Britney Spears, informing her the judges had made a mistake, brought her back to the newly expanded Top 13.
It was reminiscent of what happened with Melanie Amaro in the show’s inaugural season. After dismissing her from the competition, Simon Cowell admitted he was wrong and famously travelled to her home to bring her back.
Amaro, who returned Thursday night to perform, went on to win the whole thing but Diamond did not experience a similar fate.
CeCe Frey, whose run on the show had perhaps been the most tumultuous of all, was also sent home.
Dubbed a “fighter” by L.A. Reid, and told to “pack a suitcase” by Simon, CeCe never made it out of the “X Factor” basement, quickly becoming this season’s sing-off veteran.
Before exiting the stage for the final time, the leopard-faced, stamp-selling, Decatur, Illinois native made sure to leave the competition on a positive note.
“I hope that I taught everyone at home that you need to love who you are, because the more you love who you are, the less you are going to need anybody else to,” she said.
CeCe’s elimination also means that her mentor, Demi Lovato, has no more acts in the competition heading into the semi-final.
Following Thursday night’s eliminations, the acts finished as follows:
1) Tate Stevens
2) Carly Rose Sonenclar
4) Fifth Harmony
Britney Spears and L.A. each have one act left in the competition, but their singers, Carly Rose Sonenclar and Tate Stevens, have never fallen below second in voting.
With two of his groups still remaining, can Simon end the trend and send Emblem3 or Fifth Harmony to the finale? We’ll find out next Wednesday when “X Factor” returns at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.
