Between playing cocky orthopedic surgeon Joel Goran on “Saving Hope,”  to reviving his “Vampire Diaries” character Elijah in a pilot spin-off show, “The Originals,” actor Daniel Gillies has a busy 2013 ahead of him.

“The Originals” will be based on the group of vampires – the first ever – that have been featured prominently on “Vampire Diaries.” Gillies, cast as Elijah, will join Phoebe Tonkin who plays the troubled werewolf, Hayley and Joseph Morgan, who plays Elijah’s brother, Klaus, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the episode of “The Originals” set to air on April 25, Klaus will return to the French Quarter of New Orleans, a town he helped to build centuries before, where he is reunited with his former protégé Marcel.

Elijah joins Klaus and wants to help him find redemption, so he sides with Marcel's enemies to keep his brother from harm.

Though “Saving Hope” fans might be worried about his return, fear not. Word has it Gillies’ revived role will not interfere with his obligations in the operating rooms of Hope-Z.

"Saving Hope" will return for Season 2 in 2013 and "Vampire Diaries” airs Thursdays on CTV Two. Full episodes are also available online at CTV.ca.
