Only staying good for so long: Paul Wesley hints at Stefan's dark side
It’s hard to make the case that a vampire can be “good.” After all, these are creatures of the night who can only really survive by killing others and feasting on their blood.
That’s why the so-called “good” bloodsucker Stefan Salvatore on “Vampire Diaries” attempts to go “vegetarian” and only drink the blood on animals he catches in the wild.
It makes him weaker than his villainous brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder), but if it makes him less of a threat to Mystic Falls, so be it. He’d rather be weak than be the monster Damon allows himself to be.
“Yeah. He's like the polar extreme,” Wesley tells CTV.ca.
“He's like, "If I'm going to be evil inside, then I'm going to be all good outside," and that, of course, is going to collapse. You can only do that for so long.”
And with Stefan getting a taste of human blood -- particularly Elena’s blood -- at the end of the season one episode, “Let the Right One In,” it appears that there’s a change in store for Wesley’s character.
Elena Gilbert, played by Canadian actress and “Degrassi” alumni Nina Dobrev, has now complicated her romantic relationship with Stefan even more -- especially if Stefan decides to take another drink of her blood.
Wesley recently completed production on the film “Beneath the Blue,” the sequel to “Eye of the Dolphin,” and recently appeared in “Killer Movie” and “Peaceful Warrior.” On television, Wesley has made appearances in “24,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and “Cold Case.”
Wesley was born and raised in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
“Vampire Diaries” is filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.
