'American Idol' alum Jason Castro to appear on The Bold and the Beautiful
Jason Castro will make a guest appearance on “The Bold and the Beautiful” this week but don’t expect the “American Idol” alumni to trade in his singing talents for acting any time soon.
“I don’t have any ambitions to be an actor but I always said if I could act as myself I’d love to do it, and that’s basically what I got to do … it was a lot of fun because I love being on TV sets,” Castro tells CTV.ca over the phone, while vacationing on a beach in Florida.
Castro, who placed fourth on Season 7 of “Idol” will appear on the popular soap opera Thursday, July 29th and Friday, July 30th. He will play a friend of Oliver’s (Zack Conroy), who is “going through some girl troubles" and will perform the song "Love Uncompromised" off his debut album. Hope (Kimberly Matula) is also involved in the scene.
“It was fun. It moved really fast – a lot faster than I anticipated. I basically just got there and hung out, got dressed, put on some makeup and we shot my scene, which was relatively easy, just a few little lines. It wasn’t too difficult.”
Maybe so but Castro is quick to point out he still has a lot to learn.
“I don’t think I’m a very good actor. I can be myself, that’s what I can do, but I’m not very good at acting.”
This isn’t the first time Castro has had a connection with the popular soap opera. His latest single “That’s What I’m Here For” was also featured on a recent episode.
Castro just released his self-titled debut album in April and says getting a chance to play on a show as big as “The Bold and the Beautiful” is great exposure for him.
“That was definitely the plus on my end, just getting to share my music with an audience who was probably familiar with ‘American Idol,’ maybe they didn’t know I had an album out so now they know.”
Castro says the response to his debut album has been better than he could ever have imagined.
“I’m so proud of it and now we’re just getting to tour and share the music and that’s probably my favourite part so I’m really enjoying life right now.”
It features his beloved version of “Hallelujah,” as well as a collaboration with Canada’s own Serena Ryder on “You Can Always Come Home.”
“She is very talented. I was actually a fan of hers before we recorded that song together … It was amazing. She came into the studio and knocked it out; she has such a beautiful voice.”
Castro has a few live dates set for the summer, with a full tour planned for the fall. He’ll also be watching the new season of “American Idol” – minus Simon Cowell – with a keen eye.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what that’s like. I can’t imagine it.”
The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays at 1:30 pm ET on CTV.
