Brangelina and Jethroux: The world just can't get enough of these two super couples
They’ve outlasted ‘Bennifer’ (Lopez, not Garner), ‘Tomkat,’ ‘Speidi’ and even ‘Robsten’ who haven’t been the same since “Snow White and the Huntsman.” So what does the world see in “Brangelina” and Jennifer Aniston?
It’s a real-life love triangle no Hollywood blockbuster could ever out do.
And as with every love story, it seems our characters are finally getting their happy ending. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt announced their engagement in April 2012, and Aniston announced her engagement to actor Justin Theroux four months later in August.
As fans of the couples eagerly await details on venue, dresses and most importantly the guest list, the fascination with “Brangelina” was always the journey, not the destination.
Aniston, America’s favourite “girl-next-door,” due to her popularity as character Rachel Green on the long-running “Friends” sitcom, was publicly living the dream of every hopeless romantic. She fell in love with Pitt in 1998 and married him in 2000.
Then came “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” in 2004 and “Brangelina” was born. The spy film cast Pitt opposite Jolie, newly single following her divorce from Billy Bob Thornton in 2003.
From the get-go, media outlets published rumours and innuendo surrounding an alleged affair between the two actors behind Aniston’s back. The pair denied the allegations profusely, but that didn’t stop Aniston from eventually filing for divorce in 2005.
Whether or not Pitt or Jolie had anything to admit, the media was ready and waiting to do it for them. And the media proved correct – soon after the divorce, pictures surfaced of Pitt and Jolie enjoying each other’s companies while on vacation with Jolie’s adopted children.
Sympathy went directly to Aniston, according to tabloids. The girl-next-door had her husband allegedly stolen away from her by his co-star. While Pitt and Jolie never admitted they did anything wrong while on set, soon after the divorce Jolie announced she was pregnant with Pitt’s child.
While “Brangelina” flourished, Aniston garnered more sympathy as she was met with failed relationship after failed relationship, most notably with Vince Vaughn and John Mayer.
“Brangelina’s” engagement recently took over headlines again as the couple have repeated said they would not marry unless everyone could marry as both are staunch supporters of gay rights. However, in an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter,” Pitt stated marriage means more and more to their six children as they get older, and they couldn’t hold out any longer.
