'Smash': Jennifer Hudson is the new diva in town
Move over Karen and Ivy – there’s a new diva in town.
When “Smash” returns for its second season tonight at 9 p.m. ET on CTV Two, Jennifer Hudson will be taking the stage.
Hudson, who was a finalist on the third season of “American Idol” and won an Oscar for her role in “Dreamgirls,” will guest star in a multi-episode arc as Veronica “Ronnie” Moore – a Broadway star and friend of Derek’s.
The womanizing director takes Karen to Ronnie’s show and backstage to meet her.
Ronnie gives the budding “Bombshell” star some advice about what’s to come, including “protect the work” no matter what.
“Get ready. This is going to be you in six months,” Ronnie says to Karen as they exit the theatre to a crowd of paparazzi.
Hudson told eOnline she had a lot of fun doing the show but it was also a lot of work.
"You're singing, you're acting, you're in the studio recording, you're learning dance steps and then it was like—oh, my God!—they'll change things right there on the set…It was a challenge."
Megan Hilty plays the other diva on the show – Ivy – and told The Associated Press “it’s exciting to have her on the show” and is looking forward to having someone “as beautiful and talented” as Hudson on the show.
Other guest stars coming up this season include Emmy Award winner Sean Hayes, Academy Award winner Liza Minnelli and Jesse L. Martin. Also new this season is a new executive producer – Josh Safran from “Gossip Girl.”
"Smash" Season 2 premieres Tuesday, February 5 at 9 p.m. ET on CTV two.
