Dev, Ellis and others reportedly leaving cast of ‘Smash’
It looks like Karen and Ivy will have one less thing to fight about on “Smash.”
Karen’s boyfriend Dev, played by actor Raza Jaffrey, will not return as a regular character for the show’s second season, according to reports from EW.com. His exit comes on the heels of the dramatic season finale where Karen (Katharine McPhee) found out Dev had slept with her archnemesis Ivy (Megan Hilty).

But the show went on anyway, with Karen playing the lead role in the musical about Marilyn Monroe, and a resentful Ivy contemplating popping a bunch of pills backstage in the dressing room.
The actors confirmed the news Wednesday morning through Twitter with McPhee tweeting to Jaffrey: “Karen will always love Dev...or at least this Kat will always love @RazaJaffrey! I will miss you! Can't wait to see you back in NY!”
Jaffrey replied with: “Dev will always love Karen even if had funny way of showing it! Will continue to enjoy watching you soar @katharinemcphee -see you in NY!”
Also leaving the show will be the two men in the life of Julia (Debra Messing) – her husband Frank (Brian d’Arcy James) and Michael (Will Chase), her old flame whom she had an affair with. Messing, who recently split up from her husband in real life, is also in a relationship with Chase off-screen.
EW.com is also reporting that Ellis (Jaime Cepero), the conniving assistant who was fired after he admitted he caused the show’s star (Uma Thurman) to have an allergic reaction, will not be returning as a regular.
Here’s hoping that this opens the door for some new “Smash-ing” men to join the cast.
