Meet the musicians featured in Episode 5
Song: Silly Happy Wild
Artist: Tanika Charles
Describe your band and/or music in five words or less.
Kinda Motown-ish like.
What was the first album you ever owned?
I’m pretty sure the first album I’d ever purchased with my own money was Paula Abdul’s “Forever your Girl.”
If you weren’t in a band, what would you be doing instead?
I’d probably be a stand-up comedian or an actress...
If you could be reincarnated, what would you come back as?
A dolphin, or a bumblebee.
Have you ever seen a ghost on tour?
I’ve never seen a ghost on tour but I’ve seen vampires! I’m not even joking...
Which three people, living or dead, would you have dinner with?
Prince, Eddie Murphy and Frida Kahlo.
Who is your favorite ghost of all time?
Patrick Swayze.
Do you have any pre-performance rituals or superstitions?
Yup. I do dips…for my arms. Tighten ’em up a bit and calms my nerves…well, that and a shot of tequila.
What is your favorite place to be in the whole world and why?
The Bahamas – the first vacation, like proper vacation I went on with my boyfriend. (I know, corny) The water was so blue, the weather was perfect and I jumped off a boat to snorkel!
I also love Kwazulu Natal in South Africa. I was there with my best mates for two weeks. Safaris, Braais (BBQ), Clear nights with beautiful stars and I experienced my first frangipani. Have you ever smelled a frangipani before? It’s incredible.

Song: Ashes (featured in the Super Trailer for Episode 5)
Artist: Andy Brown
What was the inspiration for the song that appears on the show?
This was one of those rare songs that truly wrote itself. From start to finish, the melody and the lyrics came together in about 10 minutes. A friend of mine was going through a difficult time, in which he was slowly coming to the realization that he constantly sabotaged relationships with the people that cared about him, and I just channelled that realization and poured it into a song.
Describe your band and/or music in five words or less.
Folk rock.
What was the first album you ever owned?
Green Day “Dookie.” Still one of my favourites.
If you weren’t in a band, what would you be doing instead?
I love the music industry in general, so if I wasn’t performing, I could see myself on the production side of things. Or cooking…I love cooking.
If you could be reincarnated, what would you come back as?
A cat…sometimes I see a cat and I honestly get jealous about how calm and simple there life is. On that note, I would be a fat cat.
Have you ever seen a ghost on tour?
I’ve never seen a ghost on tour, but have seen plenty of weird things in the sky on long overnight drives.
Do you believe in them?
Oh yah… ghosts are real. I definitely believe in all of that supernatural stuff…I find it comforting to believe that there is an “other side.”
Which three people, living or dead, would you have dinner with?
Dave Matthews, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney.
Who is your favorite ghost of all-time?
“The Ghost of Christmas Past” (my favorite Christmas movie!)
Do you have any pre-performance rituals or superstitions?
Well, lately I have been singing a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “Make You Love Me” before each show. It’s my favorite song in the world right now and really helps get me focused on the type of songwriter I want to be, and the job I need to do when I hit that stage.
What is your favorite place to be in the whole world and why?
Anywhere that I am performing. It’s the only time I truly feel like myself, and where I don’t have a worry in the world.
