Lauren Holly enjoying her cross-country commute for ‘Motive’
People who live in and around large cities are familiar with one, even two, hour commutes to get to work. But what about a commute that spans the country?
That’s exactly what Lauren Holly does every week when she travels from her home in Toronto to the “Motive” set in Vancouver.
But the actress, who plays medical examiner Dr. Betty Rogers, isn’t complaining.
“It’s great. I’m spoiled. It’s not as hard as I thought it would be,” Holly told CTV.ca, on a recent promotional stop in Toronto.
“I don’t bring luggage. I leave a bag at the hotel. I learn my lines and watch movies and TV (on the plane).”
In a typical week Holly flies out to Vancouver Monday, works Tuesday and Wednesday, and then returns home to Toronto Thursday morning.
“I have three little boys at home, my house is never silent. To be honest to have 10 hours a week that is silent is amazing. It’s almost like I look forward to that commute because I can read that magazine or watch that show,” she says with a laugh.
But while Holly commutes across the country for work, Kristin Lehman, who plays lead detective Angie Flynn, has a much easier time – she is able to drive to set from her Vancouver home in 10 minutes.
“I can’t tell you how pleased I am about that. I’ve got it down now. I can literally roll out of bed and leave at the very last second,” says Lehman, who admits she’s found some ways to shave off even more time.
“I used to be really ambitious. I knew the Starbucks that opened at 4:30 in the morning and I would leave early enough that I could get a coffee but I don’t do that anymore. Now I’m like, ‘Will I even brush my teeth? Nah, I’ll do it there,’” she adds with a laugh.
“Motive” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on CTV. Full episodes are also available online at CTV.ca.
