Things to go from bad to worse for Meredith on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
It looks like things aren’t getting any better for Meredith Grey anytime soon.
In the opening moments of the Season 8 teaser released Tuesday, we see Chief Webber (James Pickens Jr.) tell Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) that what she did disgraced the hospital before he fires her.
What she did, of course, is tamper with her husband Derek’s Alzheimer’s clinical trial. Last season we saw her switch the patient files so Webber’s wife Adele (Loretta Devine) would receive the experimental drug to treat her disease instead of the placebo. Valiant effort Meredith – too bad it was unethical. Not like that has ever stopped anyone at Seattle Grace before. Izzie cutting Denny's LVAD wire anyone?
The truth came out on the Season 7 finale, just around the time that Meredith and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) found out they had been approved to adopt baby Zola. With Derek furious at Meredith for ruining his trial, Meredith is forced to bring their new baby daughter home to an empty house.
From the 30-second promo, which also shows Derek asking Meredith, ‘What did you think was going to happen?’ it’s obvious he hasn’t softened his stance.
We also see Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) taking a swing at Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). Karev is the one who blew the whistle on Meredith and he is told by Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) that everyone hates him. This guy just can’t get a break.
It looks like Cristina and Owen will also continue to be divided as the promo shows her saying she wants to be a surgeon, not a mother. It was revealed in last season’s finale that Cristina was pregnant and while Owen was overjoyed, Cristina said she didn’t want the baby and made an appointment for an abortion.
Other story lines sure to be at the forefront of Season 8 include April (Sarah Drew) taking over as the Chief Resident, Teddy (Kim Raver) and Henry’s (Scott Foley) newfound love for each other and the parenting triangle between Callie (Sara Ramirez), Arizona and Mark Sloane (Eric Dane).
The two-hour Season 8 premiere will air Thursday, Sept. 22 on CTV.
