Preparing for the worst: The aftermath of the 'Grey’s Anatomy' plane crash
“If you think you’re prepared for what’s about to happen, you’re not.”
Those are the words of Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), or the Chief, heard in a short teaser for the “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 9 premiere released by ABC.
The clip opens with a gurney being rushed through a hospital and the sound of a panicked Cristina (Sandra Oh) saying “We were in a plane and it crashed.” Cut to scenes of the wreckage with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) calling out for Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) saying an agonizing goodbye to Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh).
Will there be more agonizing goodbyes when “Grey’s” returns Thursday, Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. ET on CTV?
When we last saw the Seattle Grace crew, many of them were fighting for their lives, huddled around a campfire and mourning the loss of one of their own. Things were also not looking good for Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), Derek and Mark.
Dane has already confirmed he will be leaving the show. Even with Patrick Dempsey recently tweeting a potential spoiler – a photo of Sloan lying in a hospital bed unconscious – we still don’t know if it means his character will die or just leave town for a fresh start.
With the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes announcing any number of people could be departing, who else won’t survive “the most devastating event of their lives?”
And how will the other doctors back at Seattle Grace be able to cope with the magnitude of this catastrophe?
One thing’s for sure, things are going to be intense this season right from the opening moments.
We’ll try and prepare as best as we can.
