But will Eric Peterson call anyone a jackass?

The veteran actor will appear in an upcoming episode of “Dan for Mayor” entitled “The Art of Gambling,” playing a famous artist who is hired by the city of Wessex to create a sculpture.

Viewers best know Peterson from his memorable role as Oscar Leroy, whom he played for six seasons on the popular program “Corner Gas.” “Dan for Mayor” star Fred Ewanuick was also on the show, playing the dim-witted Hank Yarbo.

Now in its second season, “Dan for Mayor” follows ex-bartender Dan Phillips, who has bungled his way through an election and now holds the mayorship of a small town.

During a break from filming one their final scenes together in the episode, Ewanuick remarked about how easy it was working with Peterson again.

“I asked Eric when we were blocking that scene, ‘How long has it been?’ It’s been years,” said Ewanuick. “There’s a familiarity, it was a very comfortable feeling. It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long.”

“It’s great to be back on set with Fred, it’s tremendous,” said Peterson. “We’ve acted so much together.”

“Corner Gas” aired its last original episode on CTV in April 2009 after wrapping production earlier that year.  The half-hour comedy was created by Brent Butt, who later went on to star and create “Hiccups” with his wife Nancy Robertson (who played Wanda on “Corner Gas”).

Set in the fictional town of Dog River, Saskatchewan, “Corner Gas” earned a total of six Gemini Awards.

“Towards the end of the run, we didn’t have that much stuff together, which was upsetting,” noted Ewanuick. “As an actor, you sometimes develop back stories for your characters, at least I do anyways, and one the things that Hank always had, is that he really looked up to Oscar, like that was the person he wanted to be when he grew up.”

Eric Peterson is a long-time member of Canada’s acting scene, having had major roles in “Street Legal” and “This is Wonderland”. He also co-wrote and starred in “Billy Bishop Goes to War,” playing the role of a lifetime as the fighter pilot. That play was re-launched in 2010 and made into a TV movie.

When the topic of conversation turns to a possible “Corner Gas” movie, Ewanuick said that “there’s been no talk. I don’t see it happening, but I don’t know what Brent has in mind. I’d like to see a Christmas special.”

Peterson was also skeptical about the possibility of a “Corner Gas” reunion, but said he welcomes the chance.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been on a series where at the end they didn’t say they were going to make a movie or a special, so I’ll believe it when we’re shooting it. I don’t know,” said Peterson. “Fred and I are the wrong people to ask. We’d totally love to do it.”
