TORONTO — Missed the Black Friday specials?

Not to worry there's all weekend to charge the laptop, limber up the clicking finger, and select some comfy pyjamas for Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday made its debut in 2005 as retailers realized not all consumers wanted to wait in line, then risk trampling and the elbows of fellow shoppers for a discount TV.

Numerous companies now offer deep discounts to online customers on the Monday after Black Friday.

Websites such as canadianfreestuff.com and CyberMonday2011.biz promise to point visitors to some of the best online deals.

Cyber Monday sales have been growing year-by-year and are expected to top US$1 billion this year.

And shopping from the sofa is probably safer than going to the store.

Some customers at a Los Angeles Walmart store were injured Thursday evening when a woman used pepper spray to gain a "competitive" shopping advantage.
