Toronto man charged with human trafficking

York Regional Police have charged a Toronto man with a number of crimes, including human trafficking.
The investigation started in late December with the investigation of a sexual assault allegation involving a 28-year-old woman, they said Wednesday in a news release.
"Through investigation, it was discovered that on several dates in December 2009, the victim was forced to perform sexual acts with various men and was forced to assist a man who was (allegedly) committing various criminal offences."
Last Friday, members of the York police drugs and vice unit made an arrest.
Mark Stewart, 49, faces a number of charges, including:
- trafficking in persons
- three counts of sexual assault
- two counts of procuring
- assault
- resisting arrest
He also faces some property crime and drug-related offences. Stewart has been released from custody and is to appear in court on March 17 in Newmarket.
