A Calgary woman who was beaten so badly during a vacation in Mexico that she required reconstructive facial surgery is now out of the hospital.
Sheila Nabb, a 37-year-old office manager, is now recovering at home with her family and friends.
"She still has a lengthy recovery as well as most like other surgeries in her future," her family said in a statement.
But her family says Nabb is aware of all the support she has received from fellow Calgarians.
Nabb was on vacation with her husband, Andrew Nabb, in a five star hotel in Mazatlan, Mexico, when she was attacked in an elevator on January 22.
She suffered fractures to every bone in her face during the vicious assault. Her husband was asleep in their room when the attack occurred.
Nabb was initially treated in Mexico, then put into a medically-induced coma and flown home to Calgary for further treatment and surgery.
Mexican authorities have arrested Jose Ramon Acosta Quintero, 28, and charged him with attempted murder in relation to the attack.
There is no word yet when that trial will begin.
