What a voice she had! Such talent! Sad that it ended this way. Why does our society have to be medicated constantly? Why are we not teaching coping techniques, instead of here take this pill and that pill? I'm afraid it may turn out that she is the author of her own demise.

Foul play ruled out in Whitney Houston's death

talking about
Houston was still alive when paramedics arrived

Date: Mon. Feb. 13 2012 11:34 PM ET

Whitney Houston was still alive when paramedics arrived at a Beverly Hills hotel room and found the singer unconscious in the bathtub, according to reports.

But emergency crews were unable to revive the stricken singer on Saturday afternoon, and she was later pronounced dead.

There have been reports that the troubled singer was drinking and using prescription drugs before her death, but it's not clear what killed the 48-year-old star.

Meanwhile, it's believed that Houston's funeral will take place in her home state of New Jersey later this week.

Houston's body was flown back to New Jersey from California on Monday evening.

There are also reports that a wake for the late singer may be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, which is a large arena that holds about 18,000 spectators.

Earlier on Monday, Beverly Hills police revealed that Houston was under water and apparently unconscious when she was found in a hotel bathtub.

Officials say that there was water in her lungs, but not enough to be fatal.

At a news conference, Lt. Mark Rosen said Houston, was found Saturday by members of her personal staff at roughly 3:30 p.m. local time.

Rosen said she was pulled from the tub and hotel security was promptly notified about the incident.

No other details are being released until the investigation is complete, he said.

Toxicology tests are being carried out by the coroner's office, but it could be weeks before the true cause of death is known.

The Los Angeles coroner's office said Sunday the post-mortem exam revealed no signs of foul play.

The coroner's office said Sunday there were no visible signs of trauma on Houston's body but they added that they were not ruling out any causes of death until they have the results of toxicology tests.

Those tests could take six to eight weeks to complete, but the coroner's office was said to be releasing the body to Houston's family on Monday.

Gossip website TMZ cited "law enforcement sources" in its report that police had retrieved about half a dozen pill bottles from Houston's room, including bottles of Xanax, but there was no evidence of illicit drug use.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter declined to say anything about any evidence police recovered from the hotel room.

"I'm not going to comment on any of the meds or prescriptions that were obtained," he told reporters Sunday.

"I'd just comment that she was found in the bathtub. ... I believe somebody removed her from the bathtub and the paramedics did CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on her."

Winter said a "security hold" had been placed on the investigation, as has been done in previous high-profile deaths, to keep further details from being leaked.

According to TMZ, the post-mortem exam revealed water in Houston's lungs, suggesting she was alive when she slipped under the water and breathed the water in.

But it's unclear whether the singer died by drowning or whether any drugs or alcohol in her system caused an overdose death.

Houston reportedly had been taking Xanax for some time to help calm her nerves -- especially before big shows such as the pre-Grammy party she was scheduled to perform at on Saturday night.

Xanax is the brand name for alprazolam, a medication used to treat anxiety and panic disorders. It is part of a class of medications called benzodiazepines which act on the brain and nerves to produce a calming effect.

According to the medication monograph, Xanax should not be mixed with alcohol because it can cause life-threatening depression of the central nervous system. That could lead to stupor, coma or death.

Xanax is also addictive and users must wean off it gradually to avoid dangerous withdrawal symptoms, such as seizures.

The risk of addiction is increased at higher doses and with longer term use. The risk is further increased in patients with a history of alcohol or drug abuse.

"Addiction-prone individuals should be under careful surveillance when receiving alprazolam," the monograph reads.

Meanwhile, Houston's 18-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, has been released from hospital after being treated for "stress" and "anxiety" following her mother's death.

On Monday evening, a White House statement said that U.S. President Barack Obama's thoughts and prayers were with Houston's family and friends.

My, how judgemental society is. Hateful, mean-spirited people are sometimes the ones who cause another's addiction. An addiction is an illness, not a choice. Never judge someone unless you have walked in their shoes. Whitney was a beautiful, talented person who succombed to an addiction and tried to fight it. Who are we to say that she died of drugs??? And how disrespectful you all are with your negative comments! If your loved one died, how would you like your neighbor say, "who cares" ? You all should be ashamed of youselves.....Society as a whole is usually the cause of a celebrity's demise, as society judges and convicts them because they have more than us. They work just as hard as anyone else.

Incredible, some of the negative and nasty comments from some of you people. If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all - , especially since you don't have a clue about addiction and what it can do. Total ignorance!Whitney Houston was a human being - a mother and a daughter first and foremost, regardless of her wealth, stardom and status, I pray for her family just like I do for any other family who has suffered a loss....I am a mother and can't fathom what it would feel like to lose a child!Enough said!!

I know people suffer from addictions, and it is just unfortunate that someone makes a choice that could prove to be fatal (taking alcohol with the rx medications) where others who are fighting to stay alive, say from Cancer, lose their fight. A great voice & entertainer was lost, but it was preventable if she'd had the right people around her. Alcohol on her room service?? just a shame

I don't understand why people who have it all need to lower themselves to the pitfalls of drugs. So many have gone before her and I am sure more will follow. Whomever is supporting the drug chain in Holywood should be found and dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. May she rest in peace and sing in the heavens.

It appears the last few years had not been too kind to Whitney in comments from critics on her performances. It is no wonder she developed an anxiety towards going on stage or performing. and hence the Xanax use to calm her nerves. As with any drug it can be a fine line between life and death. But it must be tough to be a performer to constantly have to live up to the public's expectations or you get trashed. RIP Whitney Houston.

It is a very tragic story to hear about the early passing of Whitney Houston. Regardless of the cause of her death, it is still sad. People are too quick to judge on the circumstances of her death. Even though she struggled with addictions (drugs) and a rocky marriage, you can't deny the fact her popularity was enormous in the mid-80s. I feel sorry for her family and friends, especially her daughter, who lost her mother as such a young age.

Don't pass comments about things you do not understand. We are all individuals and some people can cope and some can't. Sometime in our lives we all need help but I believe that we put certain people on pedestals and despite their fame and fortune at the end of the day when there is no one else in their bedroom/home - life must be lonely. Sometimes we find it difficult to move on from certain things that have happened to us. If you haven't been in that position count yourself as one of the lucky ones. Whitney had a brilliant voice try to remember the pleasure she has egiven to many many people. If you are unable to do that then say nothing.

Whitney Houston was treated like a meal ticket at a very young age and was never given the opportunity to grow as a human being. her parents were greedy and didn't care what happened to her as long as they were getting money. The same goes that slime ball Clive Davis! . It's a disgrace how they treated her! It makes me angry and sad to see a beautiful life wasted! RIP Whitney!

Entertainment people are like sports hero's; extremely well paid for what they contribute and are 'not hero's'.

I suggest only family and friends should feel sad. It is another life cut short and the reason is of little concern.

Lets not get carried away as some did after the demise of Michael Jackson who also contributed little or nothing to the real world.

We have many real problems we should focus on.

Why is that addicts/criminals in the entertainment sector are held in high esteem while those similarly ill-advised persona in pro sports are scorned upon their demise?

We are all the same, but this celebrity has helped, enlightened and opened the minds of millions upon millions of people all over this Planet. Whatever it was that took her life is not important now, what IS IMPORTANT is HER LEGACY, what she brought to and left us. I would say she paid any debt to anyone, including the Lord, in advance. Now let's move on, all of us, remembering her in our thoughts and prayers. What we should do is continue her efforts to make the lives of others clearer and more meaningful.

It really disgusts me how people leave comments against a person that a) they don't know personally; b) have no idea what went on in her life. The lady died ... she can not defend herself and really why should she to a bunch of low lifes who have no idea what she has gone through. She leaves behind a daughter who at her age needs her Mom. So unless you know the facts ... keep your rude comments to yourself. RIP Ms. Houston

Luckily her daughter is now an adult. The one clip I saw with Whitney, she mentioned that she "wasn't an addict, I just have a bad habit". What a waste of a God-given talent.

I would think she partied a little hard over the last few days, was tired, took some pain medication accidently mixed with alcohol and fell asleep in the bath tub. Either way, she died young and her voice and talent will be missed. It truly was incredible. Too bad her demons took that away as well. Rest in peace.

I am not suspicious of her death much like many people jumping to conclusions like a hot frog from one lily pad to anotherLet the facts come out. Whitney Houston had a fabulous voice. She could sing like no other and that will be missed. However the reality of it - she was also a drug and alcohol abuser and as such no role model for young people. Her and Michael Jackson should be missed for their singing talent but certainly all the fuss is inappropriate. I have not heard of her doing anything for the poor. She didn't go to places that needed help and that her fame could have brought attention to. Instead, she abused her own body and now people have her up on a pedistal. What a shame.

Julie
said

She had a great career, good looks, and all the money she needed.Shows that alcohol and drug addiction doesn't discriminate. Those who were close to her should feel bad they didn't intervene when they saw her slipping. But ultimately, the addict/alcoholic is a selfish person who doesn't think of those who care about them.

Does anyone care? As far as I'm concerned it's one less drug addict in this world, and from reports of Prescip drugs and Alchol, it wouldn't surprise me if she was dumb enough to mix the two.Oh well

The only foul play is likely what Whitney did to herself. Or perhaps it was the Xanax laced with pmma which seems to be the new trend.
