Saint-Valentin, Que., is the kind of town where the train just passes through on its way to somewhere else. But on Valentine's Day, it's a destination.

Home to less than 500 people, the southern Quebec town receives thousands of letters from all over the world every February from romantics seeking the blessing of the town's postmistress, Lilianne Baribeau.

"Dear lady, I read that you send Valentine's cards from your country with a special romantic postage," said one letter to Baribeau.

The postage is a special cancel that Baribeau stamps on cards already addressed with paid postage, providing proof the cards travelled to Saint-Valentin.

Canada Post delivers a new cancel every year, in what has been a tradition since 1994.

Suzanne Paquette and her aunt travelled more than an hour Monday to get their cards stamped in Saint-Valentin.

"I think life is more beautiful with little things," Paquette said.
