WASHINGTON — Former Vice-President Dick Cheney says there is no contradiction in advocating harsh interrogation tactics against suspected U.S. enemies and opposing those practices when used against American citizens.

Cheney was asked about a hypothetical case in which Iran would decide to use waterboarding on an American suspected of spying.

Cheney replies, "I think we would object on the grounds that we have obligations to our citizens."

Cheney, who is promoting his new memoir "In My Time," has been associated with waterboarding, considered by many to be torture. Asked on NBC television's "Today" show if he was embracing a double-standard, he said, "These are not American citizens."

In the interview that aired Tuesday morning, Cheney also conceded he'd been a lightning rod for criticism during the Bush administration. "I'm Darth Vader," he said, referring to a movie villain.

So torture is ok if it is in the interest of protecting "YOUR" country. I wonder if they would feel the same if Iraqi's or Aphgan's did this to U.S. soldiers in the interest of protecting "THEIR" country? You can not have it both ways!

Truth is something that Dick C. and George Bush-League managed to avoid for most of their 8 years in power. For the sake of world security I do know a little water trick that could be tried on them. Many of us were right about those elusive weapons of mass destruction. I am certain we are right about many other of their myth-truths, but it sure would be good to hear the boys admit their fabrications.

It looks like there is a difference between philosophies. Cheney draws a line between American and non-American citizens. As a nation America should oppose the torture of American citizens because a nation ought to stand up for its citizens and this naturally won't happen if the person in question is not part of the American nation. The general public probably sees this as a contradiction because they don't draw a line between citizen and non-citizen, probably appealing to the fact that we are all human and torture to one human is no different than torture to another.

I'm not an American citizen. I guess I should be worried about being tortured by the United States. It's okay though, since I'm not American I am not really a human being anyways.

The best was about 5 or 6 years ago during the height of Iraq/Afghan conflict and the U.S. was accused of waterboarding prisoners the head of the C.I.A. stated that he "didn't know what waterboarding was" and that they were not waterboarding was.I knew he was lying then and it looks like its now deemed acceptable for "security reasons".

Cheney has more in common with Darth Vader than a human being that feels anything at all. I truly believe in 40- 50 years we will find out that he and his cronies where the real driving force behind Sept 11th. Ask yourself who had the most to gain?

Apparently Cheney missed being filled in on the simple fact that infor gained by torture is unreliable. The subject will tell you anything you want to hear-just keep telling him what to say.
