KINGSTON, Ont. — Authorities were trying to determine Friday how two teen students fell through a library skylight at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont., killing one and sending another to hospital.

The university says on its website that Habib Khan, 19, of Saudi Arabia, was pronounced dead in hospital.

Stephen Nagy, 18, of Mississauga, Ont., was in hospital in stable condition.

The university says Kingston police were called to the scene at Duncan McArthur Hall, on the west campus, just after 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Police spokesman Const. Michael Menor said Friday afternoon that investigators were trying to find out what the students were doing on the skylight and what caused the accident.

"It's actually with the coroner right now," Menor said.

"It's their investigation until they hand it back to the city for us. There might not be anything until the first of the week."

Counsellors were being made available to students on Friday.

"Our hearts and prayers are with Habib and Stephen's families and friends," principal Daniel Woolf says in a statement.

"This is a terrible tragedy."

John Pierce, associate vice-principal and dean of student affairs, says it was already a stressful time with exams starting next week.

"We are focusing on ensuring that students have the support they need in this very difficult time," he said.

It's the second fatal incident in three months at Queen's.

In September, first-year student Cameron Bruce, of Westport, Conn., was found dead outside a university residence.
