KANSAS, Mo. Computer technology used by law enforcement to reconstruct facial images of suspects has gained a new purpose: developing a portrait of a 2,500-year-old mummy.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City says agents from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spent time over the summer developing the composite portrait.
The mummy is part of the museum's Ancient Art Galleries, which opened to the public in May after a $1.7 million renovation.
The ATF used a program called Electronic Facial Identification Technique, or "E-FIT," to develop what the mummy's face would have looked like.
Members of the ATF team involved in the project planned to show off their work Friday.
