Three Ontario residents have been charged in what police allege was an internationally-linked terror ring that planned to build homemade bombs on Canadian soil.

The Mounties say the men were arrested after a year-long investigation unveiled evidence that linked them to militant activity in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Two of the men were arrested on Wednesday after dramatic police raids on two separate residences in a pair of unassuming west-Ottawa neighbourhoods.

Police confirmed a third arrest in the case Thursday as details of the arrests were made public for the first time.

The RCMP say that key evidence seized during the raids include electronic components and circuitry, which is often found in improvised explosive devices.

Two of the suspects -- 30-year-old Hiva Alizadeh and 26-year-old Misbahuddin Ahmed-- appeared in an Ottawa courthouse on Thursday on terror-related offences.

Authorities later confirmed the additional arrest of Khurran Syed Sher, a 28-year-old McGill University medical school graduate who had recently been living in southern Ontario. He is also facing charges related to the alleged terror ring.

Police allege that Alizadeh is the ringleader and a member of a terror group based in Afghanistan. He has also allegedly been trained in building explosives.

Dubbed "Operation Samossa," the RCMP say their investigation found that Alizadeh, Ahmed and Sher "formed part of a terrorist group … and were participating in terrorist activity in relation to that group within Canada."

RCMP Chief Supt. Serge Therriault said that 50 electronic circuit boards were seized, which police say could have been used as remote-control triggers for bombs.

Additionally, police seized "a vast quantity of terrorist literature and instructional material ... showing that the suspects had the intent to construct an explosive device for terrorist purposes."

In a strange twist, Sher appeared on the television show "Canadian Idol" in 2008, dressed in traditional Pakistani attire. He performed Avril Lavinge's song "Complicated" and danced for the judges.

First court appearances

CTV's Roger Smith reported that Alizadeh and Ahmed appeared in court separately and each appeared in court for only a brief time. They were remanded until a court appearance they will make next week.

Alizadeh faces charges of conspiracy, committing an act for terrorism purposes and providing or making available property for terrorism purposes.

Ahmed is facing conspiracy and terrorism-related charges.

Police also say that funds were being raised in Canada and then sent to Afghan militants.

The Crown prosecutor handling the case at this point is David McKercher -- the same lawyer who tried Momin Khawaja, a convicted terrorist also from Ottawa.

Defence lawyer Ian Carter, who is representing Ahmed, said the charges were serious and they could potentially put his client away "for a long time."

Sean May, who is representing Alizadeh, called them "the most serious charges you can face except for a murder charge."

Ottawa arrests

The arrests of the first two suspects accompanied two separate Wednesday raids in west-end Ottawa: one took place at a townhouse, the other occurred at a highrise apartment building.

The RCMP towed away an automobile owned by Ahmed, an X-ray technician who works at The Ottawa Hospital's Civic Campus.

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said in Ottawa that the arrests underline the threat of domestic terrorism in many nations in the West.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who is touring the Arctic, had similar concerns.

"The networks that threaten us are worldwide, they exist not only in remote countries but they have -- through globalization and through the Internet -- they have links through our country and all through the world."

Background work before arrests

The arrests come at a time when several Canadian security officials have warned about the threat of terrorism on Canadian soil.

Last month, CSIS Director Dick Fadden predicted that more homegrown terror arrests would be forthcoming.

"We're monitoring a number of other cases in which we think there may be similar circumstances," Fadden said during a speech to the Commons public safety committee.

Terrorism expert Alan Bell said homegrown terror groups are particularly difficult to identify, because their members are not evident until they begin to "exhibit some types of signs of some type of radicalism."'

"Some of them are married, some of them have excellent pedigrees. They do normal jobs, but on the other hand, it's the dark side of their radicalism that is making them commit these types of acts."

Earlier this summer, the final suspects of the so-called "Toronto 18" were convicted of terror-related charges after police revealed a homegrown terror plot that aimed to attack targets on Canadian soil.

yes there may have been some civilians killed in afghanistan, however there have been hundreds of canadian, american and other nations soldiers killed by the taliban, do those lives not count also?

myself personnaly would say to pull out soldiers out but I know they would not want to leave until their job is done.

I disagree with a lot of what Israel has done but at the same time I do see most of the terrorists want to destroy Israel.

maybe it is time the west washes their hands clean of all the middle east and far east countries and then see if we are still attacked

if after doing nothing we are still attacked maybe then all western countries should get together and say once and for all we are not taking it anymore

I see all the mouth frothing wing nuts are whipped into a state of frenzied hate and fear and CTV gladly posts all their lunacy. Let me inject some desperately needed rational discourse:

1. These accused are innocent until proven guilty regardless of their religion; it's a necessary pillar of democracy for all of you illiterate high school drops outs.

2. If the law enforcement agencies have collected legitimate, real and credible evidence then bravo for doing your job unlike the recent summit when you were rounding up Canadians and harassing, preventing free movement, assaulting and laying false charges.

3. If we didn't want to be targets of terrorists than we as a nation never should have attacked and killed thousands of men, women and children in Afghanistan.

4. If we didn't want to be targets of terrorists we need to stop aiding and supporting to Israel in their quest for regional dominance and we need to stop invading their nations. Our politicians and right wingers have convinced the lazy, ignorant masses that we have the right to live consequence free. We don't. What we do over there, will always show up over here. Get it? Emotional hysteria and asinine 'gotcha' reactions of prof.apple tart & others are worthy of grade schoolers. I'm confident our legal system will be more based in reason and evidence.

Great bit of police work! I wonder how many budding Islamic terrorist cells in Canada our security services have either infiltrated or are otherwise keeping a close eye on. Hopefully all of them! What have Canadians ever done to Muslims to 'justify' being targeted by home-grown terrorists? Well, let's see: we've sent many of our finest people to Afghanistan to provide security and help that war-torn country develop a functional government, their economy, schools, and more. Billions of our tax dollars have gone to helping the Afghan people, the vast majority of whom are Muslims. In 2005, the Canadian Forces’ Disaster Assistance Relief Team (DART) was sent to Pakistan, an Islamic nation hit by a large earthquake. Again, Cdn. taxpayers, most of whom are not Muslim, paid for the DART deployment and assistance provided to Pakistanis. Also, DART is being sent back to Pakistan to provide help in the wake of the recent flooding. For decades, we have, via our federal government and immigration bureaucracy supported with our tax dollars, allowed Muslims to emigrate from their mother country - often poor and afflicted by corruption and violence - to our rational, secular, and wealthy nation, where opportunities to study and work in peace abound. Here, the Cdn. Charter of Rights and Freedoms have allowed Muslims to practice - free from systematic persecution - their patriarchal, authoritarian, and archaic religion. Nearly every day there is a report about a girl or woman in a Muslim family or Islamic community being abused or killed for an utterly irrational reason. If found guilty, the three charged Muslim men should have their Canadian citizenship revoked and be banished from Canada and sent to Afghanistan, Somalia, or some other 'glorious' part of the Islamic world

I think that it's about time that we start reviewing our immigration laws. As someone wrote earlier, it is true that not all muslims are terrorists, but it's also true that almost all terrorists acts all over the world are commited by muslims. Our opened doors policies might have worked before but not anymore. Our future is at risk and our government needs to take action NOW. We need immigrants, but we need to take all necessary measures to protect ourselves, if we need to close the doors on applicants from muslim countries, so be it. I rather we be known as a less welcoming nation than suffers our own 911 and forever lose our sense of security.

I'm always amazed at the complacency of Canadians. We have been used to the ideals of the Liberal party for so long that we can't recognize a serious threat to our wellbeing even when the evidence is right in front of our eyes. The Whahabi fundamentalists paid for by Saudi Arabia and trained by the Pakistan security service are dangerous enough but the most serious threat to the whole Western World is Iran. Once they have Nukes they will threaten the stability of the Middle East and will have no hesitation at attacking the only democratic state in the area, Israel. Once they drop a bomb on Israel the whole area will ignite andconflict will envelop the whole world. We are facing a threat far more serious that the USSR at the height of the cold war. The Russians understood that Nukes were a safety mechanism to be used to avoid war. The Fundamentalists don't understand that or even if they do they don't care. Once Nukes are in the hands of Wahahbis the whole world is at risk. Wake up Canadians the enemy is in your midst.

Dear Kay. Here's a little what if for you. What if one day someone goes to the police to tell them that someone is planning on killing you or even putting a major beating on you for whatever reason. That would be OK with you as long as they hadn't carried out the act yet. So the police advise you of this plot but tell you that they can't investigate the plot until the person actually kills you or beats you up. Then by George they'll get right on it.. Sound about right to you?

I agree with Mary when she says all Muslims cannot be labeled as terrorists.Let's make sure we don't g down that road. But it is fair to say that they are strangely absent when Canadian police or immigration people try to enforce the laws of Canada against members of their own community. We don't see Tamils in Toronto criticizing other Tamils for the way they abuse our refugee system. And we never saw the Sikh community rise up to defeat those who blew up an Air India passenger jet.
If Muslims really want to be Canadians, they should be welcomne to do so.But if they can't join all other Candadians to fight crime and terrorism, they are not living up to the values of Canada. Sadly, only Harper wil bring forth the changes needed to fix either the justice system or the immigration system. And a lot of us worry he might go to far.Immigration lobbying is a huge industry in Canada, and those lobbyists love the Liberal Party Of Canada. As to bigotry, there are bigots everywhere on the planet. The notion that only caucasians or Christians have bigots among them is just plain nonsense. Canadians are forced,by law,to respect the rights of cultures immigrating to Canada, yet there is no such onus on other cultures to show the same respect towards Canadian cultural values. But it's not for bigots to set the legislation and reform that will get us through this.It is always the moderates who find solutions.Bigots and extremists only ramp up the rhetoric with their accusations of racism and bigotry, and with their fear and hate mongering.PRO PATRIA

How do we know a federal employee on a federal computer during federal working hours hasn't made all of this up? Canadians used to be such honest brokers. Now we're just poorer American red-necks who hate our neighbourhoods and who have had nothing but trouble with immigration ever since we came to this country. Disgusting.

Hey Mike if you took the time to pull your head out of the netherworld you wouldn't make such ridiculous comments. The Long gun registry should be our #1 concern if we want to keep Canada safe? Did you know that 1/4 of 1% of all violent crime committed in Canada is committed with a long gun. No probably not, because get hung up with the facts when rhetoric is much more fun. We should spend all the money that the government gives to investigate terorism and pump it into the long gun registry, because after all the Liberals created the registry and they are always right. They always know what Canadians want and what is best for us. Mo anti terrorism investigations should only be conducted when the Parliament building or Bay street are blown up. then you'd be saying that the cons weren't doing anything to keep us safe. The Toronto 18 were just a bunch of misunderstood young men who weren't really going to hurt anyone, and the only reason why they were charged is because they were Muslim right? I don't care what side of the political spectrum you are on, but we have to stop thinking that we are only at risk from some right wing gun nut with a grudge. What do you think about the recent convictions in NYC of the guys who plolted to blow up the JFK airport there. Actually plead guilty. Ah but they must have been tortured eh? What's the dif, you probably don't care about the facts anyway.

I think you have it all wrong. Why doesn't anybody speak out against the atrocities that Israel is committing against the Palestinian people? What about USA attacking the innocent people of Iraq? Of course nobody speaks out when the atrocities are being committed against Muslims. Does anybody stop to think about why most of the terrorists are Muslims? Did you ever think of what has happened to their countries, to their families? What our beloved West's foreign policies have done to the third world's predominately Muslims countries out there.
They don't want to attack the west. They just want to be left alone and live peacefully just the way we do it here in Canada. Nobody gives a damn if Muslims are being targeted. But if it's anybody else, all hell breaks loose! This is like the Salem witch hunt, except the scapegoats are the Muslims.
These suspects are not criminals. They are normal Canadians just like all of us here.

So how about this, can we agree that we hear both good and bad, case in point RCMP CSIS, clearly today we see a positive. Keep in mind that a positive will negate many negatives; a really good thing! What you’re missing is when dealing with authorities’ corruption at its most hideous lies at the top, locked behind closed doors and behind hidden faces, it’s everywhere today! Yes, it trickles down; now it seems like the flood gates are going to soon push open by the force of it if by judging the news is any indication? We need to weed it out and we have to understand that when the spotlight hits we need to take into consideration that that person is innocent until proven guilty!! That's the way the system we concocted is supposed to work, remember? While the spotlight shines we must pay close attention and we must insure each individual is heard, that they are condemned by their actions and not by hearsay, false documents and testimonials! Congratulations to our security agencies for working together effectively to keep Canada safe despite us being targetted by Al Qaeda and other groups. Like @Acroyear, I'm aware that lack of press conferences does not mean lack of plots & near catastrophes.@Northern Princess and others: The article clearly stated that this was a homegrown terror threat. Yes, the names of those arrested are "foreign", but they or even their parents may have been born here, for all we know so far. They could be from secular, moderate families and gone off the deep end. They could even have converted to radical Islam, taken new names and become wanna-be terrorists. We don't know yet. I'm well aware that Canada has a history of letting members of murderous groups in -- from scores of Nazis in the 1950s, to Tamil Tigers decades later. So this isn't an "ALL immigrants are wonderful" screed. But I'm concerned by the tone of many of these comments, because they come across as very intolerant. Generations ago, when the waves of immigrants were from Eastern Europe, or Ireland, or Italy, those already here were aghast at the rif-raff be let in, and advocated slamming the doors shut (which they did to Jews). It was the same with post WWII waves of immigrants and refugees. Guess what? Most of those immigrants were wonderful contributers to the country, and produced us, their great-grandchildren. Sure, some were losers, and some were criminals-- but the same can be said about plenty of 3/5/9th-generation Canadians!@Kay-- Criminal planning is well beyond talk. We already know that they had built a bomb. The Toronto 18 (despite the naive claims of @Al) was a VERY close call, but the media didn't report that as enthusiastically as they did the arrests and the bleeding-hearts' bleats.

These are fine platitudes spoken by very naive people, and would be justified in a perfect world. Would you have the RCMP stand by until these terrorists blow up a few of our citizens, then arrest them? Get with it; this is the real world and it's damned scary. Kudos to the RCMP; keep up the good work, in spite of the nay-saying nitwits.

But what if you are a "Canadian" who could be proven guilty until you are proven innoncent. It could happen any where. We must not forget that all governments are to blame for mess since 1980 on. And George the Cowboy Bush wanted to appease his daddy by getting into this mess. Remember that 2 wrongs do not make a right. Let the "games" begin!

@ Gord from Ottawa. A "ridiculously low risk" is a risk never the less. Do us all a favor and pull your head out of your backside. Do you buckle up when you hop in your car? Look at those stats... As much as I hate to say this, if an attack were carried out on Canadian soil, I hope you are one of the victims. Saves us all from telling you "told ya so". Your passive attitude towards this very real threat is exactly why Canada is such an appealing target for these lunatics. A suspect is just that, a suspect. What they suspected of is plotting to kill masses of your fellow country-men. THAT is VERY serious. Theres a quite applicable saying "better safe than sorry" Well thats exactly what CSIS and the RCMP are trying to do, keep us safe, and prevent us from being sorry we didn't just sit idle and let this happen to ANY Canadians.

By all means wait until they are found guilty. Then send them as well as any family they have, parents, wives, children, cousins, uncles and aunts and send them back to wherever they originate from. We should not have to spend tax dollars jailing these people. And to all the people who will jump on this idea, tell that to the families of those hurt in terrorist attacks. Enough is enough, they do not deserve to be in this country, and to there extended families, tough luck.

To all you people who say " send them back to your country" don't forget that once upon a time your ancestors came to this country as IMMIGRANTS! and they did it by taking away the rights of many natives. So don't think you're so special just because you're "White" and your grandparents came here. Maybe all of you should go back to your countries, then you wouldn't have to face all the Muslims here.
Many innocent Muslims are being targeted for just being Muslims. Muslims have as much right to be here as anybody else. If you don't like it then you should leave.
I've known one of the accused's family for the past 15 years and they are great people.

I, for one, am glad that these people were arrested and are off the streets BEFORE any harm was done. A few posters have it right, Gord Robson, Doug#B.C the Prof, and others. The R.C.M.P and CSIS jobs are to investigate suspected terrorists, and get them BEFORE they blow up, buildings, bridges, transit, or anything else where they know there will be masses of people. Of course the usual bleeding heart Liberals (whose prior lax immigration laws aid and abet this very behavior) are crying foul once again. Thanks to the R.C.M.P, CSIS and everyone else involved for protecting Canadians, and to our Conservative Government for being aware that these terrorists are in our country, and their support of the agencies that are constantly monitoring the situation, thus keeping us safe. To those that prefer to keep their heads in the sand, not to worry, the R.C.M.P, CSIS, and the Conservatives are looking out for you as well, even though they don't have your support.

Well how wrong would I have been, yet in my naievity no doubt would have thought them nice people. I certainly wont assume anymore.

I agree with what many have already said. The majority of RCMP officers do a great job that goes unnoticed. All the negative press lately has had a effect on how they view themselves. Good to see that many here are thankful to them (and CSIS) for working well together and doing a great job in trying to keep us safe. If we fall alseep and pretend that terrorism can never happen in Canada, we become lazy and naive. As for all of you who feel that terrorists are not just Muslims, you are correct, but let's focus on what is a threat to us NOW (not in the past) - it overwhelmingly would be the radical Islamists.

These suspects may be innocent until proven guilty, but where there's smoke, there must be fire. They have some explaining to do. A troubling trend, and a stable statistic of the kind of people that are associated with this disgustingly, cowardly way of forcing their ways on a welcoming society. Their ilk should do more to stop them - not only as a public relations trick, but also behind the scenes where they have the power of influence to do so.

@ Gord from Ottawa: The silly use of the word "paranoia" appropriately suggests that left-wingers such as yourself view the threat of terrorism as somehow illegitimate, trumped-up, exaggerated, and/or unreal. It is an ignorant, pigheaded, political position based upon a glowing anti-conservative obsession and PARANOIA having to do with the juvenile perception that right-wingers, in their "radical" pursuit of public safety and security, are inexcusably depriving citizens of key rights and freedoms. Garbage. Talk about worrying about the wrong threat. On sunny September 11, 2001, Gord, I watched, on television, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York go down, and, with the North Tower, an "old" friend of mine from graduate school. Like you, too, and many, I've witnessed death. However, I've also personally experienced the human loss from Muslim-extremist terrorism. (I keep in touch with his family.) Your foolishly dismissive attitude, and desire to keep your left-leaning head firmly planted in the sand, despite the overwhelming fact that domestic terrorist cells exist and are plotting (and have plotted -- witness the "Toronto 18" trial) the demise of Canadian citizens speaks only to your PARANOIA and stubborn political refusal to acknowledge that which is real. Moreover, the idiotic suggestion that those who underscore the need to take a serious threat to public safety and security seriously long for war and a boogeyman to chase is nutty liberal "hippy" rhetoric that strips you of any remaining credibility on the issue. Keep living in denial, Gord. It's what lefties do best. That's why Conservative adults are in charge of our federal government. Take care.

For the most part,I hail the comments of those who support CSIS and the RCMP.I am not,not have I ever been a "basher" of either.I FULLY support those institutions and the brave men and women in our military.HOWEVER,I also support accountablity. While the nature of their work makes precise planning and predictable actions difficult, and thus prone to some errors in judgement, all these institutions must alos police themselves.People enlisted to do this work, who later find themselves not suitable,do need to find other work.Rogue police people risk taring the entire force with the same brush. I have to say,"Mike",your post is the most ridiculous post I've read on here in quite some time.Equating hunting firearms with heat seeking missiles and EID's is about all you could expect from the lunatic left in this once great nation. In case it escapes your left wing brain, the object of CSIS and the RCMP is to catch these people BEFORE they carry out their actions. That's why the USA locked up several Tamil "Canadians" after they bought the heat seeking missiles, but BEFORE they got to use them.Unfortunatley, they were unable to catch the "Canadians" who bomber Air India until AFTER more than 300 people were murdered. THakns to LIBERAL immigration, defense, and justice systems,Canada has become weak, and a haven for to many terrorists. There has beewn no Liberal support for security since the days of Pearson,or maybe even King.I am not even close to a "neo con".In fact,I am a Liberal who left the party because of ideas like toe ones you put forward.Grow up man.In Canada we may be entitled to "free" health care, but terrorists do not believe we are "entitled" to peace or freedom. We got that from people willing to fight for it.

@Prof. Pye Chart et al - I am one of the "lefties" you are always railing against. I have no sympathy for the arrested alleged terrorists if they, in fact, broke the law. What I do object to is the artificial paranoia that has been created these last few years by government, the media and those like you who long for the "good old days" of the Cold War. ("There has to be an enemy out there somewhere." "There must be somebody we can blame for the state of the world.") Having seen death in many ways, I refuse to live in fear of something that has, for the vast majority of Canadians, a ridiculously low risk. What I do fear is overreaction by some people to these "threats" that will lead to more infringements on my freedoms by government and police forces, condoned by you right wing paranoiacs.

And HERE is the huge difference folks that so many just can't see in how we do policing in Canada. OUR police services have a huge tradition of keeping news and events to themselves, both to protect themselves and to protect the integrity of the case itself. The problem this causes is that Canadians tend to get a false sense of safety. Do I want to be the paranoid public of the US? No... but it would do well to remember we are the only nation on Al Quada's list of targets that have yet to have a terrorist incident on home soil. And they will keep sending a radical message that can resonate with disatisfied young men here in Canada who buy into the American message that if you're not rich, or famous or infamous than you are worthless. We ARE a target, no matter how much my fellow liberals like to pretend we are not. Well done to the RCMP, CSIS and all involved in this one... now lets let the courts do their job. Many are coming to Canada to change Canada instead of adapting to the community... good grief a woman who walks down the street in Saudi Arabia - Somalia, etc in jeans or carry a bible and would be thrown in jail or worse ! ... I would like to remind my fellow Canadians that a suspect is innocent until proven guilty. After 9/11, if you still remember, the US announced the discovery of dozens of dormant Alqaeda cells. At that time, thousands of American Muslims were arrested. We never heard about these "cells" again until an American security expert revealed recently that they were ALL released because there was not a single evidence on any wrong doing! A year ago, a number of German Muslims were also arrested in a raid on an Islamic centre. Their newspapers at the time were probably full of similar headlines like the ones we have today. Yesterday, a German court acquitted them all. Again, the court did not see a single solid evidence that supports any of the allegations. It is very important to realize that after 9/11, paranoia and not professional work is what governs the behavior of Western security agencies and their Muslim citizens. I really hope that this is not just another one of these cases.

So, another group of Muslim men have been arrested on terrorism charges. Am I surprised? Not at all. I am, however, becoming increasigly tired of this culture/religion and the face of the "new Canada". It seems quite apt to say that not all Muslims are terrorists but that all terrorists are Muslim. 9/11, the London subway bombings, the list goes on. One would be very naive to believe that Canada is immune from such attrociites. We are very much part of the Western fabric that is so despised by those in the Middle East who view us as heathen sinners. To the lefties who will pounce on my statements I offer this; I have many Muslim friends and clients who are decent, well-assimilated Canadians who are as appalled by these actions as am I. They have gained success in life by abandoning the archaic ways of hard-line Islam and have embraced the Canadian values that have allowed us to become such a wonderful contry to live.Ultimately, our security depends on Western civilizations abandoning our need to import oil from the Middle East. Once that occurs that part of the world will become insignificant and we will no longer need to maintain a co-dependent relationship that requires we invest massive resources, capital and millitary expenditures towards ensuring we have access to those markets. Until then, let us not forget the horrors of the acts of terror of the past decade and the enemies willingness to commit to the insane ideology of Jihad.

I hope this doesn't become another circus like the 19 earlier terror suspects. I heard that the police informant in that case was the person that ordered the fertilizer that was to be used for the bomb. The suspects were later captured when they were unloading the truck. Then the RCMP produced a video of what the bomb potential was which was aired over and over again to give the allegations more clout. It was a 'straw man' argument. Some experts questioned whether these 19 men actually had the ability to carry out their plans. We don't know the facts of this case yet, but it appears they have not carried out any actions yet. The RCMP should be careful to separate 'beer talk' from actual intent.

Dave

Actually, plotting terrorist activities is in fact not terrorism. It is very serious and needs to be stopped in those stages, but it isn't terrorism, it's conspiracy. Definitely extremely serious but I'm just stating the facts. Yeah this country must be the destination of choice for terrorists all over the world, what with all the recent attacks in Canada. Oops, our only terrorist attacks seem to be homegrown right-wing gun nuts who go on shooting sprees. It amazes me that people think this is the huge problem of our time. It's just a distraction. We have so many bigger fish to fry than terrorism in Canada. Stop living in fear everyone, our counter-terrorist system seems to be working pretty well.

As legitimately disturbing as these terrorism-based arrests are, equally troubling is the knee-jerk compulsion of pinheaded, denial-wallowing left-wingers to question the integrity of the RCMP and suggest, without any thoughtful intelligence, that our federal police agency may somehow be leveling such serious charges in absence of lawful grounds. Ridiculous...and typical. It has become a stubborn pastime of the Left in this country to both minimize and trivialize the evident threat of terrorism by radicalized Muslim fundamentalists, and foolishly pretend that, really, only "deserving" Americans are in their sights. (The "Toronto 18," and major incidents in Britain and Spain, are purposely forgotten.) We have, of course, many terrorist cells functioning right under our nose in Canada, and it is not "evil" pundit Ann Coulter and other right-wing mouthpieces bringing the threat to our proper attention but, rather, domestic intelligence, security, and law-enforcement agencies, with the needed help of carefully cooperating members of the Muslim community itself, who have clearly indicated that Muslim extremists with a bona fide terrorist agenda are plotting in our midst. Disconcerting, certainly, is the fact that many in the Muslim community around the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), despite the overwhelming court-generated evidence to the contrary, view the "Toronto 18" as genuine victims who were railroaded by anti-Muslim crusaders in government and law enforcement. (Unfortunately, many obstinate lefties in this country carry the same unfounded view.) Canadian society is largely asleep on this issue, and we're enjoying a delightful but false sense of security, to be sure. The prevailing logic that because 9/11 was years ago, and major international incidents of terrorism happen seemingly rarely, we're entirely "safe," ignores reality, ignores ongoing intelligence work and discovered/thwarted plots, and jeopardizes our security. ...Our committed enemy relishes our stupidity and naiveté.

The Immigration laws are so laxed that there really is no thorough background checks done on all of them. Some are legit but others are certainly not. Some say that it takes too long for them to receive their papers, but I say its not long enough. There are many sleeping cells in Canada and they have all the patience in the world before they do their awful deeds. But then, canadians think that everyone who come to Canada are great people and that we shouldn't say anything bad against them for fear of being called 'racists'. I just hope that nothing ever happens on canadian soil, because even though it will wake up some bleeding-hearts, others will have had to suffer for nothing.
