The Montreal SPCA is sending out a warning to people living in the NDG area of Montreal.
It believes someone has been poisoning skunks with anti-freeze, something that could kill or harm other animals as well, should they ingest the liquid.
The organization is particularly worried about cats, which are often left to roam free and could be tempted to drink anti-freeze because of the sweet smell.
It wants their owners to keep them indoors until there is an end to the skunk poisonings.
NDG residents do say that skunks can be a nuisance in the area, especially because of their seemingly large populations.
However, most express outrage at the idea that someone might be trying to get rid of them with anti-freeze, which leads to a painful death.
Animals suffer from vomiting, seizures, and loss of muscle control
"There were children who live in the area watching the skunk," said Leora Birnbaum. "Over the course of the afternoon the skunk was becoming more and more ill it wasn't moving it was shaking a lot it looked like it was having seizures."
The SPCA believes it has discovered four poisoned skunks recently.
"It's a really horrific death," says Alanna Devine, of the SPCA. "We had to immediately recuperate the animals and humanely euthanize them."
Poisoning animals is not only cruel, it is also criminal, so the SPCA is asking residents to report anyone they might see setting out containers of anti-freeze.

Employers understanding is one thing but let's make no mistake; there is not enough help out there for those who need it. I speak from very personal experience.
